Jazz + Gumbo is excited to announce our four-month residency @dusablemuseum in partnership w/ @chef.rah + @mahari_restaurant. The residency kicks off on Sunday, March 8th, in celebration of International Women’s Day and coincides with the museum’s 65th anniversary programming.
Each month, our residency features two programs, an evening of Jazz + Gumbo at DuSable, coupled with our new series, @jazzgumbostudies.
Jazz + Gumbo Studies is the educational programming arm of Jazz + Gumbo. Through a series of public programming events utilizing jazz (music) and gumbo (agriculture) as cultural carrier languages to bridge the gap between the African Diaspora, the series aims to explore the cultural migration patterns between these two languages and their footprint around the world. In this series, we’ll explore a wide range of jazz + gumbo-related topics including ‘The Migration Patterns and Roots of Gumbo’ to ‘Pass The Peas: The Influence of J.B. Music on Jazz Culture.’
This family-centered, educational program series lends itself to community programming rooted in cultural dishes, live performances, film screenings, album reviews, artist talks/discussions, book talks, cultural tourism, urban planning, bus tours, field trips, and culinary experiences tied to the African Diaspora.
